playback during tv shows was normal in the 80's. i gues that it was cheaper than setup al the instrumental gear and do soundchecks, and carry along a load of technicians and roadies, because popular artist went from one tvshow to the next to promote themselves. And most important, we didn't care, because we already knew that they could sing and play alright. Something we can't say about those today's artist, because they care more about their image than their singing.

Goes without saying that this music is wonderful. But I must say, I really love the style from back then. Take this video for example, the guys look so classy and that set is pretty sweet too.

No doubt about monster bass maestro / singer Mark King, but part of L42's signature sound is also due to the great Mike Lindup on backing vocals / keyboards. Just for the record.
