If you are an RAF Fire Fighter, you will have been to Manston (or possibly even Catterick) on a basic firefighters course. Trade training at Manston is just that, first hand experience at something new, to learn the trade, not master it in a few months. This is why training continues throughout a firefighters career on crew.
As for BA, have you ever sat in a Mk9? It is not designed for its occupants to be wearing breathing aperatus whilst on the move and the TacR did not carry BA sets.
Shame about the Lightning - they should have burnt a Phantom instead.
