Unique and rare images of Fra Fra Sound in early stage back in the 80`s, with the original founders still part of the group. The scene takes place in 1983 in Kwakoe Amsterdam, where they use to practice and perform regulary. Line-up: Marius Tjon-drums, Ponda O`Bryan-percussion, Reynold Felter-percussion, Glenn Gaddum-piano, Arthuro Castillion-guitar, Orlando Dest-alto sax, vocals, Armando Cairo-tenor sax, Joe Heberer-trumpet, Vincent Henar-bass. Here it is where Fra Fra Sound is coming from: music deeply rooted in African Surinam cultural traditions.
heerlijk deze video, jeugd herinneringen met de oude bandleiders marius tjon en vincent, bedankt voor deze video, martjo
en niet te vergeten in het warme kwakoe van 'PA TJON' r.i.p.

I appreciate seeing this video! Joe (trumpet) was my brother. We were in Ghana together before he went to Amsterdam. He went on the US, joined the Navy Band, got a Masters of Music in Composition, worked in Anapolis, then the NATO Band in Naples. Married and had two young children before brain cancer took him away from us. A truly talented musician & composer. I play trombone and went on to play & teach in Asia.
