Feast of Theophany (Йордан) St. Elias Church 2008

St. Elias Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church celebrates the Great Blessing of the Water, Saturday, January 19, 2008. The outside blessing, now abandoned by many parishes, still is the norm in Brampton, ON--despite the bone-chilling cold (yes--it is as cold as the video sounds.) Done for years on our frozen pond, we now continue the tradition at the newly installed fountain. Thank you Nadia for filming this.

it's so beautiful to see St Elias continue so many beautiful traditions that many churches no longer continue (particularly byzantine/greek catholic churches). i'm sure it must be "bone chilling" cold, and i'm not canadian nor ukrainian, but i imagine it's at least as cold if not colder than this in the ukraine and russia on theophany, and after all many (if not most) of the people in this parish have ancestors who came from such equally cold (or colder) places.

today is Theophany. happy feast!

..there are churches like this in the USA and canada where the services are in ENGLISH...for an intoriduction to the easter christian church i recommend a book called "the orthodox way" by kallistos ware.... it transformed my life...i came into the orthodox church via the russian church in 1987...i am of puerto-rican descent ...there is an orthodox church in san juan...Gracias a DIOS!!!
