"To Zanarkand" Cover

Original by: Nobuo Uematsu (Greatest composer ever)

(Special Thanks to Ryan)

I've only been playing for 2-3 months and this is the first song I've learned. I haven't captured that "feel" in the song, the ability to subtly change tempo and velocity of hitting notes, but I've tried my best haha. I left out the insane part near the end, cause I simply couldn't do it without making mistakes during recording, so when I perfect it, I'll remake the video in the future. You'll also notice my keyboard shakes a bit. It's cause of the crappy X-stand (World Tour X-Stand, don't buy it lol).

(Oh, and I'll be impressed if someone can figure out whose signature that is on the music stand haha)

Mm also, I've noticed while watching other people's piano videos is they lack info in the description, such as what kind of keyboard/piano they have, or camera/sound outputs, etc. So just in case anyone wants to know, I'll jot down what I used.

Camera: Canon Powershot SD 1200 IS (640x480 LP 30 fps)

Keyboard: Yamaha NP-30 (Voice: Grand Piano 2)

Sound: Did not record from camera mic. I connected my keyboard to use my computer speakers, then used Polderbits Sound Recorder and recorded the audio separately. Later, synced it to video. (Method allows to hear the piano exclusively, and also at a higher quality opposed to a camera mic.)

Video Editor: Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (used to sync the audio/video together and added title)

  • Good job! Is this the actual sound as recorded from the NP-30 unedited? Sounds nice.

  • Yeah, the sound is transferred through the mic input with a double-ended stereo jack from keyboard to computer. And ya, it's unedited.

There's one flaw to this kind of recording though -- piano at times, sound way better when recorded from a (professional) mic, in a well-echoed room.
