Pretty straightforward application of shihonage. Nage should turn his shoulders rather than tilt his torso to avoid the punch. The atemi is absolutely essential. Also, uke should be dancing around nage, not vice versa. Shihonage doesn't really work, in my opinion, if uke is not moving as you see him moving in this clip.

  • It can work if u(nage) do yr atemi (strike or punch under his chin or face) maybe once or several times(to distract his vision/mind).Then use this advantages to do shihonage.

  • @syimang

The more you strike uke the more he moves in reaction to those strikes and the more difficult it becomes to apply shihonage. And if you don't move uke off balance before applying the technique and keep him off balance he can easily withdraw from the technique.

  • yes i guess its not good to limit oneself to one expression of aikido .. as sometimes its good for uke to move more and sometimes less.. perhaps aikidos message is always try to adapt.
