Pacific White Sided Dolphins near Powell River, BC, Canada

A pod of perhaps 100 of Pacific White Sided Dolphins was observed a short distance from the harbour in Powell River. After the boat was stopped the dolphins changed course towards the boat, and swam past it or under it. In the background you can hear the Texada Island ferry approaching and then slowing on its approach to the ferry terminal.

Thank you for your comments anavidhunter. As is evident from my commentary in the footage it was an exciting experience to be surrounded by the dolphins. I've been living on the coast for 20+ years, run a boat in ocean for most of them, and that was the only time I've experienced that. Friends have told me of similar experiences but weren't prepared with a video camera as I was, so I consider myself fortunate.

OH WOW!

very nice! We saw about 40 or more just off of Horseshoe Bay, and they were jumping and splashing, and surfing off the ferry's wake. It was hilarious!

Nice vid :] I sail up and down BC and love seeing them. I have vid of a pod in fornt of Powell. I have videoed Dolphin every year now so feel blessed. Keep up the good work.
