I spilled a bit of lemonade on my 13" MacBook Pro (of course when it was open), mostly on the keyboard. Fortunately it turns on, all the keys seem to work. For the most part, the juice splattered on to the keyboard, and inevitably seeped in between the keys; it wasn't spilled directly into my MacBook Pro's keyboard.

After about a day of letting it sit, many of my MBP's right-hand keys began sticking greatly. I figured Apple won't touch this thing--even though i'm still under warranty--and that i'd venture into the task of removing all of the 'sticky keys' if you will, and cleaning them and their compartments using Q-tips, and little bit of rubbing alcohol.

For the most part, disassembling the keys' mechanisms requires popping off the key, strategically, and them removing the plastic piece that sits under them (keeps them suspended up off of the small suction cup thing)...

This video was taken with my 3GS, and under horrible night and indoor lighting. I'll maybe think about capturing me cleaning the rest of the keys soon.

  • Yeah, the first couple keys took a bit if pressure to get off--I thought I might break one. I used an old license (credit card will work) to pry off the top left-hand corner of the keys. The plastic of a card is good because it's unlikely to damage the plastic of the keys or the aluminum.

FYI: the space bar and enter keys use metal prongs that help keep them from bending. The space bar has two of these and is fairly tricky to get back on correctly. CONDUCT AT YOUR OWN RISK, and have fun.

  • seriously this is pissing me off like actually im trying 2 put back my T and R key on and its not woeking cuz every video on youtube makes it seem so simple.

  • easy! after prying the keys off and cleaning them, just press in the keys hard enough and they will just lock in.

  • how hard is it to remove Delete? does it have those metal prongs like spacebar does?

  • and that's why you dont have drinks at your desk

  • dood lol background screaming and talking about being shot. lol

  • I must say, I haven't gone through the feat if removing the entire keyboard (the aluminum cover).

All the advice I can give for the non-spacebar keys is to use something not very hard--either a drivers license or credit card and begin GENTLY prying off they keys from the top-right or top-left corners only. As you slowly pry them off, they'll eventually pop out of their mechanism.

From here, obviously the bottoms of the keys are exposed, as well as the upper parts of the keys' mechanisms are o
