My old Leyland Martian (now sold on) on a test run after some restoration work. Powered by 6.5lt Rolls Royce B81 petrol engine.

  • Brings back memories. My RCT squadron had one for driver training in UK and war issue stored in Germany. Also remember getting stuck behind them towing 5.5s going off Salisbury Plain regularly - belonging to 100 Med Regt RA (v). That does date me

  • Yes great sound - the B81 is good for converting money into a nice noise. The difference between the B80 and the B81 is capacity. B80 is 5675cc and the B81 6516cc. The B81 has a bigger bore but the same stroke as the B80.

  • i had a ride round the ring in this truck with my old day and a mate i think it was at an mvt show i had just bought a recovery vershion and was restoreing it at the time, now long ago i sold it on e-bay some years ago anyone seen it? was a right hand full but wonderfull engine when on song

  • Someone took one of those round the offroad course at war and peace this year.May have been the same one but he damaged the front wing going through a mudhole.

  • its been over 10 years since i drove that truck , i remember taking her to war and peace show and had to take to the kerb as the brakes failed.. slowed it down slightly but ran straight over the path .... great truck great engine and great memories
