For more than a decade Brazil has opened itself to the global economy. Yet still the richest ten per cent of its people take half the nation's income while the poorest 40 per cent live on less than two dollars a day. The measures Brazil has taken to save its currency -- steps that have thus far satisfied fast-moving global markets -- are hurting the poor and the lower middle class. What's happening in Brazil graphically poses the question of whether global economic pressures exact too high a cost in societies that are already among the most unequal in the world...

  • Okay......I have to agree to the fact that the man depicted in this documentary - the trespasser, holding the Bible, since he is praying and chanting - is NOT Brazilian.

Food for thought........if he is a "foreigner" in Brazil - perhaps from neighboring countries such as Paraguay and Bolivia why is he demanding land/property in a country that is not his?

    Interesting..........

  • All countries have their wounds. Some how my Brazil still suffers from poor quality of life of homeless people. However, we are improving ...

I firmly believe in change and creative capacity of the Brazilian for the better - much better. The simple people are very smart and after all we are one of the world's happiest nations. There is an ocean of challenges, but it was much worse ...
