Bunka Embroidery Lesson - Fluffy.

This technique is used mostly for animal kits, but can also be found as a decorative accent in flat stitch pictures.
Fluffy kits are stitched on the back of the fabric using very small stitches, approx. 1/16 inch long. To begin and end an area to be stitched, it is necessary to back-track or stitch on top of, the first and last 3 stitches. This effectively tacks them down. While stitching, check the front side now and then to make sure that the loops are just covering the image. After stitching is complete, turn over the fabric and place masking tape around the loops. Brush the loops, using a scooping or upward motion so that the fluff is standing up. Brush the loops, not the fluff. The masking tape will protect the fabric from the sharpness of the brush. If a stitch unravels, simply cut it out of the fluff. If the kit contains eyes and nose, pierce the fabric with scissors, insert eyes, nose and push the clip onto the post.
NOTE: If the picture contains flat stitching, the fluffy area must be completed first.
Also, never force the needle through the fabric, if it meets resistance, simply move it slightly and insert. The needle tip may bend and then break. If the needle is dropped on the floor, it can be re-sharpend with an sand-paper nail file.
