This movie demonstrates how long it takes Archeee (Arch Linux on EeePC) to reach Google search result starting from power-on. Network connection is wifi and Firefox cache is on tmpfs.

  • Nice. I want one of these EeePCs, they look tight. I will most likely install Zenwalk or Arch on it, maybe Slackware. Did you compile your own kernel or just use the stock one?

  • In this movie, I used the kernel26-eee which was specially built for eee. With stock kernel you can't get such fast boot.

  • why would you use kde on a netbook!

  • I see you backgrounded 4 or 5 services during boot ;) That speeds up a little bit, but I still prefer not to put "@" infront of my services in rc.conf :) (the difference is maybe a sec, two the most...)

  • If it's that fast with KDE and Compiz Fusion, bloated to the max. Wonder how fast it'll boot with pekwm and xcompmgr.

  • That's it. I'm getting a Eee PC.
