I wish this version was included in The Metronomical Society...

This band pioneered the Canterbury sound, along with the likes of soft machine. Dirk Campbell (or Mont back then) is actually the most underrated musical genius of prog music. He composed some really cutting edge, complex prog music and wrote 90% of egg's material. I marvel at his genius, and Dave's keyboard playing (and of course Clive's drumming)

@Big77Jim I think Mont Campbell was an excellent vocalist. Ans so was Robert Wyatt from Soft Machine. I quite liked Khan's vocals, especially Nick Greenwood's. They were very appropriate for the sound of Canterbury scene.

I think the Canturbury scene was really cutting edge and far out which is cool. Not too many great vocalist however(except for Caravan and Gong)

With guest appearances by Rolf Harris on stylophone and Les Dawson on piano. :-D

@FlogCheney spot on just realised it myself now
They really were an incredible band. There was nothing before or since that sounded like this - and there never will be another band that were so experimental. Their first two albums meant so much to me when I was a kid - especially both the second sides.

Great to hear "Wring Out", which was later hinted at and obliquely referred to on occasion in Hatfield and National Health tunes, though not in odd meter.
Stewart did use "Wring Out" in its actual 7+10 form as the latter section of "Gigantic Land Crabs in Earth Takeover Bid" from the first Hatfield LP. I believe he kept it in the same key (have to go confirm that).
