Toucan Vs. Cat

This is an introduction of a new pet that did not go well. I assumed that because Ezzie is so sweet with any human she meets,
her treatment of my cat would be similar...I was wrong! Luckily Shadow wasn't hurt (except maybe her feelings).

Cats an pass deadly deseases to birds just from having the cat near the toucan. For the risk of that toucan, you shouldnt do that. Plus, toucans cost....$2000-9000 on average so you probably dont want to loose that type of bird. ;)

I had never heard of this before, so I ran it by a bunch of toucan owners I know. Many of them were also not aware of this, however, some verified that it's quite true. Cat saliva and feces are extremely dangerous to birds. As you can see in the video, they didn't hit it off very well, so they are on two separate floors of the house. Thanks all the same for pointing that out. I did lose a toucan last year to an unknown cause, so I'm glad I have this information.

They are legal to keep as pets in the United States. However, it is now illegal to import them from their native habitat (central and south america). therefore, they are extremely expensive. The only breeders that I know of are in California, and there are a very limited number bred each year. Just to give you an idea, the species you see in the video is the least expensive...and I paid 6000 dollars for her.

@Pretolux $2000-9000 man thats ripping people off XD cuz in colombia these birds are practically free...why the hell would anybody pay so much for a bird? i know their beautiful cuz we used to have one but that just shows people like to show off saying the paid that much money..and thats sad...its cheaper to buy a ticket to colombia and get one of these birds

Toucans are Legal, They Just can cost from 1,000 - 12,000 Dollars, Not Including Cages and such. But You may be able to find One for less by a home breeder.

There are actually still some legal importations of certain species of toucan into the US. I'm pretty sure that the importer has to have some sort of permit to do it though.

but $ 6000 .... i searched for them, and found the emerald forest bird gardens. I have the price estimated at $ 500. And then I must also pay the transportation costs too. Because I am from Germany.
