I agree. Obama is not a Pioneer.

No. This is not the Dawn of a new era. Obama will not fund this rocket. NASA is no longer a Manned Space flight agency after Aug 2010.

@jdoggybizzle local space program..is that a joke.

At some point in my life I would like to see either a shuttle launch or the launch of some manned rocket. There is video during the Gemini program of a Polaris launch from a sub as viewed from the Gemini craft, a really neat view.

I used to think so too, but now I'm not so sure. The commercial option isn't going to be capable of flights to the moon, so when we want to go beyond earth orbit after the ISS is gone, we'd have to start from scratch. Also we'd have to start from scratch modifying the commercial vehicles if we abandon Ares now. Ares I is already designed and has flown.
Not sure how it's gonna turn out, but I'm not so sure Ares will get canceled.

Nice video! Too bad those pesky clouds got in the way.

dawn of a new era with old ICBM technology and toxic fuel exhaust

That's not what they said. They recommended that Project Constellation will need at least an increase of $3-5 billion for NASA per year because Bush only allocated 40% of the necessary funding for this project.
Any other proposals will be equally expensive, if not more so since the billions spent on them would be added on to the billions already spent for this.

Dawn of a new era? it will be canceled by the end of the year because the panel that is reporting to Obama wants the commercial rockets (i.e Delta rockets) to be the new manned rocket for Nasa they say it will cost less and be up and running faster than ares.
we have trillions of dollars to bailout failing banks and corporations but we can't get proper funding for a decent space program. that's really sad.
i'm glad they are making progress. support your local space program!!!!
