The deal was 1. the rear end has a differential that can unlock and spin both wheels separately (for turf and what-not), 2. the clutch is half out of this 3 wheeler. and 3. We just knew he wouldnt make it up that crappy little hill with it.

Shitty driver. Anytime you climb a hill you get your ass off the seat and lean toward the front wheel. when backing down a hill you at least try to hit the breaks and never let the machine angle sideways when going down a hill. That hill was nothing.
