Joe was a homeless man who would take up residence in front of the New York Film Academy. On a street grate he stayed warm. I'm not sure if Joe chooses to be homeless. I didn't really ask him too much about himself. The day of the shooting was 11 degrees fahrenheit. It was bitterly cold and I thought maybe he needed at that moment, a blanket and a hot meal. In return, he allowed me to film him. Two blocks from his street grate, I chose to film him on Park Ave. His sign has the words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty... Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses. After graduating I have returned, but I have never seen Joe again... I hope in that day at least, we made a difference...
