Cluster bombs still exploding in Georgia - 3 Dec 08

The war between Russia and Georgia is over, but bombs are still threatening the citizens.

It will take de-mining experts many months to find and destroy unexploded munitions which both armies left behind.

The worst danger for farmers and playing children are cluster bombs, which when exploding are scattered over a vast area, obliterating everything in their path.

Al Jazeera's Matthew Collin reports from a village close to South Ossetia.

Stop trying to ban cluster bombs as that is a dead-end. Instead strive to require re-design of bomblets so they become "safer" if un-detonated. Some simple designs would incorporate electrical ignition with limited life battery or timer using shock insensitive Trinotrotoluene(TNT) high visibility outter paint and droge for discovery. Current popular mechanical method of arming is prone to a percentage of failures be it small. Trees,soft soil, cannister delay, improper deployment=unexploded bomb

Ya. Ive done a lot of research on russia and related topics. Chernobyl is my most heavily researched topic though. Its a whole different world over there for sure.
