http://YouTube.com/SXSWLawnParty Hanni El Khatib keeps it raw and direct on stage, with just his guitar, voice, and a heavy-handed drummer.
L.A.'s garage-blues guitar mauler Hanni El Khatib has earned himself the rep as an artist to watch out for in 2011, on the strength of a pair of killer 7" singles, and a string of raucous West Coast gigs where Khatib and drummer Nicky Flemming are known to wield their vintage style of raw rock and roll with an executioner's menace. This is music for broken honky-tonk's and dark, deserted alleyways -- a far cry from the rolling lawns of the French Legation Museum and our annual SXSW Lawn Party. But Khatib proved that his music is much more than just noir-rock posing, with a powerful set that featured tracks from his much-anticipated forthcoming full-length debut, including this, the B-side to his most recent 45, with the halting Bo Diddley groove of "Loved One."
