UPDATE 2/4/2012: The washer in question was related to the Power Steering mechanism. I'm assuming that the normal vibration of the diesel engine naturally loosened the bolt and washer holding the pump in place over time. For anyone who's got a W123 and has a similar problem, I used a 13 mm socket wrench to tighten the bolt and a 13 mm open wrench to brace the bolt on the opposite side. It's now back on tight and not going anywhere!
