Student Lisa Pederson describes the raised gardening bed she and her teammates developed out of reused materials for an Engineering 100 class at the University of Michigan. The beds are designed to provide a way for lower-income families to garden on a small, manageable scale.

  • Great job everyone! I was in this course as well, and the community partner we worked with really appreciated our innovative designs; this was an engineering project, so our focus was more about functionality and sustainability than aesthetics at the time.

  • it seems interesting as an idea...but if you are architecture students you should be a bit more concern for the design as well...cause honestly it does look like junk...me and my fellow students we did planters as well...we creates 5 modules...with different function completly out of pallets that we found locally...we had harvest station, tool station, plating area for the kids and another one for adults with sitting elements...we spend no money and it look beautiful and it is functional
