  • That Hartford, CT circus disaster, what a nightmare. No wonder it stayed with Charles. The tent top was covered in paraffin mixed with gasoline which rained down like napalm on the 7,000+ crowd, although most of the 168 dead (2/5 under 15 yrs.) died from being trampled. There was a bad omen prior. Circus superstition had it that canceled shows were very bad luck, and one of the Hartford shows had just been canceled...Photos show Charles witnessed a fearsome inferno.

  • charles was a peach.

  • i love you and miss you, mr. riley.....

  • @whiskypapa Let's hear it, Whiskypapa....

  • Charles was great. The Match Game wouldn't have been the same without his dry wit, and fun personaliy.

  • "...these two actors are among the greatest that this country has ever had" with regards to The Gin Game (Lyceum Theatre 1997) are Charles Durning and Julie Harris (nominated for a Tony). Reilly was nominated for a Tony for his direction and the play itself was nominated for best revival.

  • @ sickkat44

Yes, he was there at the age of eleven.

  • did he say he was in the hartford circus fire?? ive never heard this before or seen this interview. can anyone verify his comment???

  • I do a pretty good Charles Nelson Reilly impersonation.

  • 1:45 Rip Chuck!

  • Mr Theater Talk is gay too. I didn't know Charles was a director until after he died. Huge talent there, on Match Game, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, all the funny movies. Wish I could have met him, oh well.
