Personally I miss those days. I remember the North Swell in the spring of 1974. The waves were rolling in from Rincon down to San Clemente ranging from 15' to 20'. When the waves would come into shore, most of the beach would disappear. Real bad storm that time, houses in Malibu were falling into the ocean, swept away by the mud slides. Gerry Lopez was just coming into his own back then, but the real stars in real life were the "long board" surfers. Man, what a time.

@essertpitay . In general, today's top surfers ride shorter, multi-finned surfboards which are more lighter and manuverable. But some good surfers still choose to ride longboards, It's a matter of personal preference/ style.
