Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), in cooperation with the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF), has held a series of election observation missions for CALD member and observer parties since the year 2000. The goals for this mission to Taiwan were:
1. To give participants an overview of Taiwan's historical development from
colonization to democratic development and the practice of democracy by
popular electoral framework,
2. To allow participants the opportunity to gain inside perspectives behind
political campaign strategy including polling methods, fundraising and
grassroots mobilization, and
3. To observe and contrast campaign activities of different DPP candidates in
Southern, Central and Northern Taiwan.
