Buy at http://www.shapeways.com/model/119235/twisty_tree.html Copyright (c) 2010, M. Oskar van Deventer. Twisty Tree is a fractal twisty puzzle. Any leaf can change place with any other leaf after some turns.

This puzzle was 3D-printed using nylon-powder SLS technology, which explains its price. It is the very first prototype, costing its designer and maker a lot of money to create. Please do not confuse it for a cheap mass-produced puzzle.

  • So would this one be more of a novelty item (not intended as an insult in any way) or as an insanely difficult puzzle? Either way, it is an amazing creation. Where do you come up with your ideas?

  • @DRUNKASSPUNK800 This puzzles is not that hard to solve. It is mainly a lot of logistics keeping track of the locations of the pieces, as all leaves and branches can be interchanged.

  • I made something that works just like this out of legos, can I sell if for an amazing price of $500?

  • @BasedThatDude You can always offer it for sale for $500. The question is whether someone buys it ...

  • do u make these or do u just collect them?

  • @fefeckman All puzzles that I am showing have been designed and assembled by myself.

  • Oskar, I think you are an absolute genius. Don't let these idiots upset you. A lot of people in my generation (I'm 18) don't understand or appreciate art. Your puzzles are not just beautiful, but entertaining and challenging. Your work is well worth the money it costs. Yes, I'd love to be able to afford every single one of your inventions, but not if it means devaluing your genius. No matter what these people say, don't forget that you have loyal fans that will stay with no matter what! :)

  • thats messed up!!!

  • It surely is a logistical marvel but it looks like its going fall apart at any moment, for $500 you'd think it'd be a little more sturdy

  • @luccaskunk Ouch, you really took that one personally. But you've made your point, you win.

  • @DeepSpaceVoid Lastly, addressing your reference to AmayaChosha, I am in-fact a loyal fan of Oskar's. However, being a loyal fan of his does not mean that I have to like everything he produces. Do loyal fans of George Lucas or Star Wars praise the Star Wars Christmas Special or Howard the Duck as being an example of George Lucas's brilliance? No they don't. No, they don't. Having an opinion is not a reason to give me death threats. You know what a death threat is right?

  • @DeepSpaceVoid I know what a fractal is. A fractal is a repeating mathematical algorithm that produces patterns with self resemblance at all scales. This puzzle does not meet that definition, it is not a mathematical algorithm, nor is it a representation of a mathematical algorithm. It's inspired by fractals but it is not a fractal itself.

I appreciate that the mechanics involved are complex, but the idea is aesthetically unappealing and unwieldy.

  • @luccaskunk Prime example of AmayaChosha's comment. I think we should incinerate you instead. If only you knew what a fractal was, or even the geometries and mechanics involved in his work...

  • how do you win
