Ruby [LEGO Rock Band] 100% Expert Vocals

100% Gold Star Expert Vocals performance on Ruby by Kaiser Chiefs, as it appears in LEGO Rock Band for PlayStation 3.

As is typical for my videos, the original vocal track by Ricky Wilson is minimized so you can hear what I'm singing.

Ruby isn't technically a difficult song, but there's not a lot of places to catch your breath, and you have to cover for both singing parts in the chorus, which gets rather exhausting. To add to the difficulty, I decided to sing this song entirely in its original pitches, which in my case - as a bass range singer - means switching back and forth into and out of falsetto on every other phrase in the chorus.

You can hear me struggle to land some of the pitches in falsetto because the transitions are so fast and I'm also trying to catch my breath in between each phrase. Very tricky, to say the least.

Overall, this is a fantastic song to play on vocals if you can handle the tiny breathing spaces (and a good way to practice if you can't).

Eh, I rather like LEGO Rock Band. It fills a very specific niche - it's extremely kid-friendly, so hyper-sensitive parents won't be worried about buying it for their kids. Anything that gets more kids into music is a good thing. And to be honest I like quite a few of the new features, like the Rock Challenges.
