  • Mimikri, woohoo :)

Do them hoppers' organs extend into the various bumps and thingies on their backs or are they empty shell parts for hiding/display only?

  • @janeyanna Eine gute Frage, und ich muB zugeben, daB ich da überfragt bin. Doch kenne ich einen Membracid-expert, und vielleicht wird er uns einen Antwort werfen.

  • @janeyanna eli says:It would seem not, or at least research has not been able to pinpoint one. it is used in mimicry/camo, but beyond that nothing has been proven. may aid in transferring vibrations, which Membracids use to communicate amongst themselves, but studies showed this not to be true. The pronotal projections are typically covered in sensory hairs, and they certainly play a sensory role... it's possible that they are just a combo sensory organ (environmental/ pheromone) and disguise.

  • where is my pokedex ?

  • cute bugs

  • what is that? its so cuuutte! :3

  • @memutic Thanks for you reply!

I always wonder because every addition in body mass means a daily investment of energy. So at least the preliminary evolutionary steps needed to either hitch a ride with some really adaptive trait or have some selective pressure working for them already. Is there such a thing as 'a bit of mimikri'? Imagine that pseudo-ant having only some small black bumps; would that fool a bird?

Or am I getting my brains in a knot here?

  • Very Nice!
