  • You should be able to break them in some circumstances.

  • @pok282 That idea is called " Situational ethics" started in the 1960's it has been linked to much of what has happen to the Family the last 50 years, It seems harmless, but if you set your mind on justifing your actions, you'll soon fine out you are able to justify anything. If you shift your purpose from honoring God, to serving self, "If it feel good, do it" then you see what we have today....A mess....thanks for the comment.

  • @truth4U2C So if you where in Nazi Germany for example and you where hiding Jews in your attic and you where asked if you where hiding them y Nazis you should say yes and get them and yourself killed?

  • @pok282 I would lie out of lack of faith to see any other way to save lifes...I wouldn't justify the lie, I would seek forgivness for the lie, like any other lie.

  • Morals came about through Natural Selection. Natural Selectural is the process which favours the reproduction of those who can live to adulthood and reproduce. If a group have no morals and hurt each other then that group will have a disadvantage compared to a group who help each other.

  • History shows the stronger groups (tribes) wipe out the weaker ones... there is no record of morals entering into mankind by this model you puupose...Morals are from the moral law giver...Think! be honest with the facts...don't harden your heart towards God.

  • @Skrothn Where is evidence supporting your idea of a "social contract"? Why do psychopaths/sociopaths kill? It isn't because they have decided not to enter into the same "social contract" as you or I, it is because they have different brain chemistry and/or altered brain function.

This is an accepted fact within the field of psychology. Numerous reputable studies have been performed that show huge difference in brain function between balanced vs. psychopathic individuals. Its mostly biology.

  • @truth4U2C superatheistboy is referring to cooperation within groups, not necessarily between them. Acts of altruism (morality) occurred because they were necessary for survival. "Niceness" towards family/friends/community members is a biological disposition for humans, as well as other primates.

I am not entirely sure what you mean when you say that there is no "record" of morals entering into mankind, as I said, altruistic behavior is a byproduct of evolutionary development.

  • I don't like your argument against murder. I want to point out that I think it is wrong but you need a better reason why it is wrong. Not killing someone just because someone else might kill you is for one selfish and two isn't loving. If the only thing deterring you from killing someone is that someone might hurt you, there is something wrong. We should be moral because it is the right thing to do and not just because told us to. You shouldn't need to scare people into doing the right thing.

  • @SuperAtheistBoy That's incorrect. Morality isn't a biological trait so it isn't passed on through reproduction and natural selection. We don't kill because of social contracts. These are basically the "I won't kill you if you won't kill me" rules. In groups it is better to not kill each other. This isn't because of biological processes however. Morals do evolve but not because of natural selection.

  • @truth4U2C Morals don't come from a law giver. Morals come from thoughts, societal feelings, and culture. Each person has different morals because everyone thinks differently. We all have different thoughts. The way we look at things is partly influenced by society around us and our own culture. These morals change because our views change (ie. in the case of slavery.) Also it can be argued that following a set of rules doesn't make you moral/good.

  • Morals is what we learn from eachother. In my country chopping of thieves hands is immoral. And in Iran it is acceptable. Because they never learned it was immoral. People start morallity. There was a cavemen once that thought. Killing is wrong, and he was probably a leader and viola, no more needles killing.

The bible is simply a guideline were fanatics fall back on. Ofcourse without any logic. Since God says you may not kill a man. But he kills a lot of people in that book.
