@59Skott The purges from the late 1930s are actually a small number from what I remember; The biggest contributor is the famine in 1932.
But once again your 40 million figure only makes sense if you include WWII (25 million deaths). I'll send you a private message on the matter, so as not to clog this message board.

@Scientisticsoviet Tovarishch, Did you also include his Blood Purges of the 1930's and beyond? I did mistake the number it is 40 million-not 160. This figure comes from former sealed KGB Archives. Stalin out do Hitler when it comes to mass murder. I am not condoning what fascists did-by any means. I grow up in DDR and know of many things; my grandfather first work in NKVD then work in MfS and he knew of Stalin's crimes.

@59Skott 160 million? The number gets higher every time I read it XD. Have a good look at some well researched data. The highest I ever saw quoted was 20 million by Robert Conquest's modern archival influenced revisions. Most researchers however seem to estimate 10 to 15, including the famine. My own calculations using the data from Wikipedia's "Soviet Demographics" page has given me a figure of about 12 million including natural deaths, excluding deaths due to the second world war.
