In this video, Chang Julan digs sweet potatoes, walks us through her upgraded swine facility and demonstrates her new rice milling machine. Chang and her family live in Fuxing Village, China — one of the Sichuan earthquake disaster areas. After the quake, her family was hard hit by poverty. Since joining a Heifer China self-help group, her family has reconstructed their pig facility, rebuilt their house and seen a significant increase in income and food security. Looking toward the future, Chang and other project participants hope to build a biogas unit and benefit from a government-funded a drinking water project.
