"Kombucha is an all natural health beverage chockfull of probiotics and other healthy amino acids. Probiotic literally means "for life". Unlike antibiotics, which kill ALL of the bacteria in your body, even the good stuff, probiotics re-establish the natural ecology of the intestinal flora. Probiotics are said to boost immunity, enhance mood, fight allergies, detoxify the body and rid the body of disease. The Kombucha benefits you experience may vary.

However, Kombucha is NOT a panacea -- it doesn't cure ANYTHING! It brings the body back into balance so that it may heal itself naturally. That is how it is able to do so much -- because it works with your body's natural immune system."

Never, never, never use a straw...it's plastic. Use only glass or stainless steel. No wood, or plastic should ever touch the tea. Anyway, using a straw introduces foreign bacteria into the tea.

Hi Lulu - there is no problem with such casual contact between a straw and Kombucha. While it is not wise to leave plastic in contact over time, this brief contact will not cause any harm. Also, Kombucha is naturally anti-bacterial, so while it wouldn't be smart to stick an obviously dirty straw in your Kombucha, a clean one is not a problem. Actually Kombucha is a very hardy organism, that's what has made it possible to survive with us DIRTY humans for so long. lol - thanks for the comment! :)

That sure was a lot of sugar going in it, from what I've learned, adding sugar, (especially bleached white sugar) defeats the health factor of doing this in the first place. Or is the sugar a part of the fermentation process and is needed for outcome?

Hi I just made my first kombucha batch, it's not moldy or anything but it does have a strong yeast smell, like driving by a beer factory? Is this normal? Do you think it's safe to drink? Thanks for your videos btw.

I just bottled my KT for the second fermentation. I used ginger for one and lavender and elderberry for the other two bottles. Hanna, your videos are awesome and the mother I purchased from you is so robust and healthy. This is a lot of fun. One thing I wish I would have done differently - I wish I would have ordered the heating system at the same time. We keep our house way too cool and it was tricky keeping her warm - the heat strip is going to make it so easy. Thanks!

I tried the "use the starter from the store bought Kombucha" method. It didn't work. The Mother took forever to get going and never really developed to full strength - it was a blotchy, filmy layer - I suspect our illustrious FDA makes them irradiate it or something. So I decided it was easier to get a real Mother. I'm starting my kombucha today. Yay!

well, we're glad you feel passionately but the facts remain - kombucha is a liver detox not a toxifier. what you haven't taken into account is the bacteria - the yeast create alcohol, just like in beer, however, the bacteria CONSUME the alcohol and turn it into healthful acids. that is the symbiosis of Kombucha unlike beer or wine. high alcohol drinks intended to inebriate have a completely different effect on the body. thanks again for your opinion.

ha ha - well Kombucha is non-inebriating, in fact it's purpose is to clean the liver, not poison it like beer. Also, as you know beer requires anaerobic brewing, while we encourage the oxygen. Anyway, thanks for your opinion. :)
