Rebuilding public trust may be the biggest challenge facing the Spokane Police Department in 2012. One city council member thinks he has the solution: New uniforms. KXLY4's Colleen O'Brien reports.
There is evidence that uniform and police car appearance make a measurable difference.... (Google: police uniform psychology) There are several articles that discuss this issue. Particularly look for the academic (aka "scholarly") journal articles listed on the first 3 pages of google search results.
@lpfanatic2003 I'm all for the body-cams, as long as the individual officer is NOT in control of it, and the video will be available publicly. We NEED to see what they do. Not all cops are bad.
As for the idea of newer/friendlier uniforms will help our police forces PR issue.. that is laughable at best.
I agree with you.. if anything is to be spent, spend it on re-training.. PROPER TRAINING, not then pera-military bs we have now.. unless they really are at war with the public O_o
@2bRealist but body cameras would actually show what they do! I say we need to focus on the root of problem. Training to make them better and save the money for actually improving the police department and not just making them look different.

"lipstick on a pig" <-- you know you were all thinking of it
The uniform doesn't make the man... his training does ;-)
Save the taxpayers some money, and scrap the new uniform idea for something that may actually work. What happened to the body-cams?
