Yes I agree with you, he really looks lost and I hope he found the way back to Manhattan. I almost cried watching that scene.

Romantic fantasy??? He only said that Angela is beautiful that's all. I think the only reason that he appears sad or scared in this scene is that he did expect New York to be something completely different when he arrived in the US.

he felt his loneliness more because he wanted a romantic fantasy lived out with Angela but it wasn't meant to be & it would have blunted the dynamics with yoyo. a clown never gets the girl. he just entertains couples until they go off romanticly & the clown is left on his own. That's sad. Comedy is tragedy + time. audience are sadists laughing at others misfortunes whilst sighing relief it isn't us. the dichotomy is envy of nasty Paris Hilton types who don't deserve wealth, yet God allows them.

i really felt sorry for the guy in this scene...he looks lost and scared somewhat, anyone else feel the same way?
this shows the individual clown Peter pan boyish adventurous spirit that has fun in making mistakes now turning into a competant yet bland nobody. so in some ways with this new skill he loses his funny edge, like when John cleese had therapy after divorce Connie Booth from fawlty towers he wasn't as funny. Sometimes we make ourselves clown to buffer ourselves from the harsh realities we don't wish to confront. Hence taking off his red clown nose signified a boyish fool from the tarot into knight
