EDIT: I've disabled the comments so that I have to approve them before they appear on the list. I'm touchy about what people say about this hero of mine.
So don't worry if your comment doesn't appear. You probably won't have to post it all over again. I just have to approve it before it goes up. :) ...........................................
The land of Wales, west England, in the year 1400, was divided into four major kingdoms. Gwynedd in the north, Powys in the center, with Dyved and Gwent at the bottom. England, at this time, was ruled by King Henry IV, king of England and lord of Ireland. Wales, that small country in the south, was stirring in its long dependence and serfdom. A strong leader, Owain Glyndwr, a Welsh nobleman, had risen in revolt against his king. He had been denied a voice in anti-Welsh Parliament against the greedy baron, Reginald de Grey, Glyndwr. De Grey was Glyndwrs powerful neighbor who had and intimate position with the king and had also stolen Glyndwrs land. This is was the reason for Glyndwrs denied dispute. De Grey, eager to get away with his crime, organized a trick by the king into making Owain deliberately committ treason. King Henry urged de Grey to publicly denounce the Welshman a traitor and forfeit his lands. De Grey forced Owain into exile. Owain Glyndwr had no other choice than to fight back against the corrupt political forces, in revolt. On September 16, 1400, Owain Glyndwr, leader of his cymry, his countrymen, was proclaimed Prince of Wales. He was to be the last son of that country to be its prince. His banner of the golden dragon waves in mystery. Though his story has faded into legend, he is not forgotten in the hearts of his people.

  • Just realised that in your description you talk about Wales being in the "south" or the "southeast". Wales is to the west of England. Incidentally the word "Wales" was chosen by the Saxons and comes from the Saxon word for "foreigner" - which to them the Welsh were.

  • Thanks, I'll go fix that! :)

  • Great stuff! Really stirring. What was the music?

  • It's called 'Here Comes the King' ...by X-Ray Dog, I think.

  • Owain's fight to free Wales lasted 12 years and sapped the English armys strength. But unlike " Braveheart " no film has ever been made about him.

    WHY ?

  • Braveheart should have been about Owain Glyndwr because unlike William Wallace Owain could win more than one battle.

  • They are making a movie!! There's even a website....

  • There was, years ago, a programme entitled The A to Y of Owain Glyndwr, I believe it was screened on S4C. It featured footage of medieval re-enactment at Coity Castle and I was one of the combatants shown (but I don't remember which 'letters' we were featured on). Does anyone know where I can see footage of this at all?

  • they really should make a movie about this man honestly why isnt there a movie? he was the last true prince of wales he was actually a welshman from wales not a member of the royal family who is proud to get the title of prince of wales but honestly to me this man owain glyndwr is my prince of wales honestly wht wud this man say know if he knew who was prince of wales he wud turn in his grave but anyway there should be a movie about this its an important part of history tht evryone shud now

  • This would make a great film trailer!! Fitting tribute to the last true Prince of Wales. I don't harbour any hateful feelings towards the British monarchy, but they are not our Royal family.

  • @scottiehypnosis01

No we won't... Plaid will lose their place in government in May to a Labour majority and then we will be back to square one. People in this country don't care enough about its future or its heritage. It's a dream...

  • @owainglyndwr16 near completion?... they've not even found a director!

  • Fili aros am y ffilm!! Cannot wait for the film! :D

  • ITS TIME TO RISE ! WAKE UP YOU PEOPLE OF WALES YOU HAVE BEEN SLEEPING FAR TOO LONG WHILE england HAS STOLEN OUR LAND WATER COAL, GOLD, AND TRY TO KILL OUR WELSH LANGUAGE . THIS IS A FILM , THE KILLING OF A NATION ! FE GODWN NI ETO WE SHALL RISE AGAIN ! BUT WILL WE I ASK YOU !
