There are so many dialects of English.

Some people seem to think there are only two dialects of English: British and American. Uh, no. Check this out:

  • that one guy said he wanted to visit brazil because he has been learning a bit of Spanish....

Maybe somebody should tell him that they speak Portuguese in Brazil.

  • bangs isnt australia english.. im from astralia and knwoone says it

  • I agree with you. I'm brazilian and I feel really sad when I hear something like that. Another comment is very common too: "The capital city of Brazil is Buenos Aires". NO, it is NOT! Please guys, I beg you this, stop thinking Brazil is Argentina!

  • you say with weird.

    its annoying.

    sorry.

    ha.

    actually.

    im not.

  • "Bangs" is also a They Might Be Giants song!

I guess I'm lucky that I had/have a good friend from Scotland, so we learned some qualities of each other's English dialects! And of course tease each other. He says "mee-jum" for medium, and I say "uh-loo-min-um" for aluminum!

  • My husband asked, in front of my family, "What do they speak in Brazil? Spanish?" Nobody said a word.

  • "Visit with" implies a "give and take".

To "visit" implies a more "one sided" thing...

  • "Visit with", implies a more pleasant experience... "We visit with our grandma"...

On the other hand..."Everyone should visit the dentist once a year" or "If you do something wrong the police might pay you a visit".

    Just my understanding.......

  • A plait is the same thing as a braid.

  • Don't tease us!!! What are Plaits??

Cut can also be "get rid of, give up." Like "cut it out", "cut our losses" and "cut classes" and so on.

I wonder if I have any Plaits??

  • while "visit with" may not technically be wrong, it is definitely a redundancy.

"I visited Mary" has the exact same meaning as "I visited with Mary" in any dialect that I know of.

I think people have been adding the extra preposition in there for so long that over time it just became standard. I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually considered grammatically incorrect at one point.
