99er: 'We Are Living in a 3rd World America'

Congress did not include any extension in this debt deal for unemployment benefits, meaning the 99 week program will expire at the end of this year. And anyone who loses their job after July 1 of this year will only get 20 to 26 weeks of unemployment. Rhonda Taylor, Advocate for the 99ers National discusses.

People who are unemployed are always told to work at a fast food joint but fail to realise that most fast food joints aren't hiring and most of them won't hire the unemployed.

i believe her. it took me a long time to find work, and i got turned down by 2 McDonalds while i was looking..

but the problem is that she shouldn't have to be resorting to McDonalds to find work. A minimum wage job like McDonalds isn't enough to support a family. I know people that have full-time jobs but still need government help because the cost-of-living is so high. it's ridiculous.

if you haven't been through that kind of situation, you can't know what it's like.

Yeah its so true the unemployed aren't even considered for even low wage positions, and then they are tarred and feathered for being lazy and not finding a job. Those who are overqualified are put through the corporate ringer and are coerced into a subjugated position with wages that barely compensate the standard of living. People are then forced into debt while many of the ultra wealthy keep accumulating more wealth. This will continue until citizens refuse to perpetuate this vicious cycle.

How on earth did we ever make it when we had no welfare system? People became innovative, and pulled together, oh and don't forget the churches. I have ( and my spouse) have great jobs, for now, and have for many years now.., BUT we never blew through our cash, we live way below our means and don't have credit or car payments!! most of them won't hire the unemployed? I'll go out on a limb and say I bet the majority of their employees were unemployed mere seconds before they were hired. And can't we all admit that not having a job for 3 years is a bit ridiculous? If you're on the internet putting in 9 hour days (just like you would if you were working) looking for jobs and sending in applications you would find a job.

yeah because your credit gets destroyed, which means that you can't work at the cashier. I just start wandering around in the street wit hthe same outfit. That usually gets me a job.
