Doniphon wasn't the one who killed liberty valance, it was stewart's character stoddard. If Donophon shot him he would have fell back and to the right instead liberty fell back thus it was stewart who killed liberty. The physics doesn't make sense, It's a CONSPIRACY man!!!

Wayne's Tom Doniphon may have killed Marvin's Liberty Valance in this film, but it was U.S. Brigadier General James Maitland Stewart who fought in World War II and was a decorated soldier. Whereas the Duke kept applying for deferments during WW II and never served. Also, Marvin was wounded during combat in Saipan during WW II.
