ive mainly used chicken livers mixed with a lil garlic. seems to work well here in ky. other things ive used have been night crawlers, hotdogs, and some type of dough ball stuff i got at the baitshop. i awalys fish for cats at night and only fish the bottom, meaning no bobber. just cast way out, turn your drag down low so you can hear them pull line and put a small bell on the end of your rod. then sit back, crack a cold one and relax.

try useing spider weights bend the wires out so they act like a grappleing hook and dig into the substrate but since the wires are bend able their hard to snag on rocks as they just bend off personally i just use hand sized bluegill live or dead or large shiners as the cats sit in holes waiting for food to float/swim by and just suckem in its much more effective than stink bait or livers at dams

snags just come with it bro just remeber no matter how many times you break off fish like snags rocks wood any stucture as for bait i use cut bait for blues and channels such as any oily fish shad skip jack even grass carps just cut them into strips it helps to leave them sit in the sun for a day befour you go it sound nasty but when have you ever caught a catfish on something that wasent and fish the edge of currents or eddys. for shovelheads use live bait like sunfish or carp close to the bank

I went on a state website for Mississippi, so many of the rivers around here have warnings about how many if any fish to eat from them. That being said I have fished and eatin from them my whole life. Just concerning.

i live in TN and we always go to Pickwick dam every other weekend to catch our food for the week. and i must say you never know what you'll pull out when your at a place like this. i hooked a 28" striped bass on a ultra light one time man as that fun.
