"Baby chicks need rest" asserts Prof. Ian Duncan, an internationally
recognized poultry welfare expert and BC SPCA special advisor on farm
animal welfare. In this short clip of an extended talk to poultry
growers Duncan makes a compelling case for a revolutionary change in the
lighting programs for broilers and turkeys. He refutes the decades-long
textbook practice that says "young chicks need continuous light in order
to find food and water." Duncan argues the practice is "rubbish" - that,
like all baby animals, chicks need sleep.
