KEUKENHOF- TULIPSGARDEN 2008

Keukenhof in Lisse staat in 2008, vanwege de Olympische Spelen, in het teken van China. Er zijn diverse Chinese evenementen, inspiratietuinen en diverse shows. Onder de grond groeit daarnaast een immense draak: 24.500 tulpen en muscari's vormen in de lente een 15 bij 10 meter groot bloembollenmozaïek van dit traditionele Chinese symbool. Keukenhof wordt 19 maart geopend door prins Willem-Alexander.
Ook aanwezig zal zijn de vice-burgemeester van Beijing, Niu Youcheng en Erica Terpstra, voorzitster NOC*NSF.

Amnesty International heeft de opening van Keukenhof 2008 aangegrepen om bloemkwekers op te roepen om Chinese verdedigers van mensenrechten te eren door een bloem naar hen te vernoemen. In De mensenrechtenorganisatie draagt namen voor als Ye Guozhou, Ding Zilin, Chen Guancheng, Shi Tao, en Hu Jia en zijn vrouw Zeng Jinyan.
Volgens het persbericht van Amnesty is een eerste positieve reactie is inmiddels binnen: Floratuin in Julianadorp heeft toegezegd een hyacint en een narcis te zullen vernoemen. Bij de opening van Floratuin op 16 april zal bekend worden naar welke mensenrechten-verdedigers de bloemen vernoemd zullen worden .
