I was lucky enough to see Ted play in Norwich in (I think) 1986. He came on after Andy White had just bombed doing a poor man's Bob Dylan set, sat down on his milk crate in the middle of the audience and held us all spellbound with his beautiful songs and huge charisma. Every time I listen to "Peace and Happiness" I think of that night and mourn his passing. God bless you Ted.

@RobertdeSaintLoup That's truly a bittersweet memory, Robert. I knew Ted's music only from our local public broadcasting radio station (90.1 KPFT in Houston) where they played his songs fairly frequently. I want to say I discovered his music there...but I think his music discovered ME there, and has kept hold of me ever since.

@franksm2001 Yeah, a voice, that seems to come from the center of the earth. You should listen to his version of CORINNA, CORiNNA. One of the best singers I ever heard. There should be more great videos of him on YouTube.

@varuscelli Thanks for the reply Varuscelli, that was kind. I might add that Ted's voice still has the ability to stop me in my tracks over 20 years after first hearing him. There is a biography of him on the allmusic dot com website, but it's a little limited. Andy Kershaw had some serious domestic problems in recent years and lost his job at the BBC as a result. Shame, as he was helpful to new musical talent of all kinds. Thanks
I heard him in Dallas at Poor David's a couple of months before he died. He opened the show with an absolutely show stopping rendition of There Stands the Glass...what a talent! I'm so glad I got to hear him live.

@emmapeeldallas I have always wondered if he ever made it to Texas for any shows. I'm in the Houston area and can't remember him ever being here, but that's also something that could have easily gotten by me. It's very cool that you got to see him in Dallas.

I remember the 1st time I heard Ted Hawkins on the Andy Kershaw show (BBC Radio 1). It stopped me dead in my tracks. Such power and emotion in a voice is rare. A natural talent. A lot of respect should go out to Andy Kershaw too, who spent time getting Ted known in the UK. Ted's death was sad as he was just getting better and better musically. Thanks for a great upload.

@aaarrrggghhhh Great post. There's a collection of Ted Hawkins' music called The Kershaw Sessions: Live at the BBC that is what has to be a compilation of the very music you're referring to (I assume so, in any case). And you're absolutely right -- respect to Andy Kershaw for the role he played.

@Dragonking3787 Good to hear from you again, Dragonking3787. It's not me talking, but one of the people who narrated parts of the Amazing Grace video...I think maybe Michael Penn...or Michael Messer.
