I'm an earth person. Not even a degree in Forest Range Management and 6 years working with the US Forest Service could get me close enough to the earth. The earth is my passion and reverence. I need to dance, sing and drum on the earth as much as I need to breathe air. In the early '90's I was asked to become a songkeeper for a group that honored and observed the equinox and solstices through a ceremony called a Long Dance. That became my passion. In '94 I quit my job and went on a walk about in Australia to find more of what I wanted to do with life and to collect songs from the aboriginals of that wonderful continent.

  • You are 3 for 3 on typical western-sided thinking, uneducated discourse, lack of insight....& just plain wrong.

I`m not as "pale" as you suspect, & your great intellect should remind you that you see me through a web-cam which washes-out it`s view [idiot]....& double dumbass because your "pal" opened up the "skin color" debate first with his question...I merely answered it.

Why not just go wave your turkey feathers around & play injun & leave me out of it...

  • @PeterPeli Because I am Native American too. My DNA is caucasian, but I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona alongside brothers and sisters of all races.

I am not arguing with you. I am defending a drum making brother against your ignorant comment regarding his skin color. Have you taken a look in the mirror lately? Your skin is whiter than mine, which means you have a whole lot of caucasian DNA in you too.

If I can't find the spirit because I am too white, than neither can you.

    Peace.

  • Another Western response that only serves to appease the user.

You do not know of what you speak, especially concerning my culture.

Sooth yourself all you like, but nothing will change the truth of reality...

God gave you your instructions at birth...by not following them ie,being a Culture-Vulture,you are saying that you know more than that which createds you.

How can one argue with a Native, about what is Native??

  • @PeterPeli This 'spirit' you speak of is known as Love. Love knows no boundaries and recognizes no race over another.

We all need listen to this spirit more carefully. If we ignore it, we become our own worst enemy.

    Peace.

  • @crazy8sdrums

A typical Western response...to which the answer is yes, you will need to re-incarnate as a Native Indian to make our instruments with the spirit of our people.

A Raven can be taught to howl like a Wolf, but it won`t have puppies in the Spring....

  • @PeterPeli I am caucasian and I make drums. I lived on one of Arizona's many reservations for several years while I honed my drum craft, Pasqua Yaqui.

Does my white skin create a meaningless drum? Will I need to be reincarnated with darker skin in order to make drums with meaning?

    Just sayin...

    Peace.

  • I speak to Westerners all the time, who say things like "I play Native American flute"...

to which my response is, "Oh,are you Native"?....

And is answered by, "NO"...So I tell them, "You only play flute then".

    Same with our drums.

    These are just drums....nothing more.

  • oil keeps the wood from over drying and checking

  • mineral oil also or kitchen wood care, bees wax and mineraloil combined,

ben the wood turner stayed in your home doing the local shows later old man,
