REPAIRING SQUARED CORNER BEAD

Overview:

Oftentimes the corner bead of a wall will become damaged, denting the corner or causing the edging to pop out of place. Fixing damaged corner bead may be intimidating, however, the repair is not that complicated.

To fix damaged corner bead there are several materials and tools that will be needed.

Materials Needed:

The materials needed are 45-minute drywall mud and if it is a small job ---- canned texture.

Tools Needed:

The tools needed are a 1½ -inch and 6-inch taping knife, a hammer, and a wet rag.

The Repair:

First, take the 1½ -inch taping knife and scrape away the drywall around the damaged area. The drywall needs to be peeled off of the wall and the damaged corner bead needs to be exposed in order to be fixed.

Now, take a hammer and gently tap the corner of the wall in place, creating a nice square edge. Continue scraping and hammering the wall, piece by piece, until the damage is completely exposed and corrected. Drywall screws might need to be screwed into the corner bead in order to hold it in place. Once all the prep work is complete the corner bead is ready to be mudded.

Now, mix up enough drywall mud to completely cover the entire area. Take the taping knife and apply mud over the corner where the drywall has been removed. Remember, the new corner should be even and level with the existing wall.
