Beautiful. Also, young Don McLean looks like young Chevy Chase. I find them incredibly attractive. ^.^

I made this song with Don McLean one of my favorittes on youtube 5 years ago. It absolutely amazes me how people can argue so fiercely about who sings it better Don or Roy. There are so strong words and lot of rudeness. Who sings it better is after all all in the ears of the beholder. Personally I prefer Don but if someone out there prefers Roy it is fine with me..Roy wrote it of of course, it is his song, but Don does a great job of it.

I love Roy Orbison, everything he ever did. But, IMHO, you are absolutely right. Don McClean captured the heart and soul of this song. His phrasing, the subtle shifts in pitch. The enormous power his voice rises to at the end. It evokes every heartbreak I ever felt.

It's funny. I just listened - again - to McLean, Lang and Orbison's versions. All are great on their own. Just interesting that all three leave you with a different feeling.
