Have voted Green since 2000 and will never go back, only forward. "Lesser evils" inevitably build into "greater" ones. And I know lots of people also voting Green this time. Looks like Obama is in for a very big shock---having turned his laughing back on true progressives all these years. The GOP is finished, and so will the Dems be if they don't start fighting for working people EVERY day instead of just during elections.

Government isn't benevolent. It's impersonal. I can have my private relationships on equal terms, because I'm not in a position where I'm reliant on my friends' generosity. I don't have to take bullshit from people just because I need more help than the norm, and that is appealing to me.

I would prefer a society where others in a similar situation have an impersonal institution to turn to, separate from their private relationships. That I want this for them is MY benevolence. Not government's.

In 2000 I voted for Nader. I live in florida. Nader most likely got more votes in Florida than the margin of victory that Bush got. If the nader people had voted for gore, we would never had bush as president. I've always felt that I contributed to bush being the president by not casting a vote that would stop him. The green party has the best platform, but in the swing states, a vote for the MAIN opposition to republicans is the ONLY vote that is effective against republicanism

Outstanding post, friend. Well, Greens lost, but at least there's a bit of room now for America to keep on growing up!

Just voted Green for the 1st time ever for the presidential category (different for other categories). From this point forward, FOR BETTER OR WORSE, I'm sticking to my honest personal beliefs and cold hard facts. I can no longer over-rationalize reality, betray myself & the common good in favor of convenient fantasy, or play the ridiculous party games instead of focusing on actual individuals & their civic work. I'm no longer voting inside the box, because I must now break free of it's grip.

Wait a second here. You like the social handouts you got from gov't. You would hate if a person helped you out. Fucking bottom line is you got charity from all tax payers. You talk about having to rely on others for help. You love the cold impersonal gov't that made you (in your eyes) Helping others is greatest joys in life, but you would rather have gov't take the place of people and normal healthy society. Gov't is ignorant in that it can't make good judgements, blanket solution.
