A feelgood film shot in and around YLLAS & AKASLOMPOLO, about 300km inside the Arctic Circle in North-West Lapland. I went up there with eight friends and family about three years ago - when Joel and Stacey were the only ones who had a video camera. It was a real hoot! Can't wait to get back again - a fantastic place to go in Winter. We slept in Igloos, warmed up in Teepees and travelled by dog sleighs, snow-mobile bikes, ice skiis and snow shoes. The native population is mainly made up of Finnish and Sami people though you might bump into the occassional Swede as it is very cloe to the border. Getting around is suprisingly easy in Winter despite the fact that it snows most nights. The majority of Finns and Sami's tend to drive regular vehicles rather than purpose built off roaders, with Winter tyres being the main concession - a bit of a revelation to me as I come from England where a couple of centimeters of snow can bring the whole country to a stand still! The Teepee in the movie belongs to a reindeer herdsman who burns his mobile number and e-mail address into the same sticks of kindling wood which he uses to light the fire you see. I love that mix of old and new technology and can really relate to it being some-one who mixes ancient music with new technology. The tune, by the way is Irish and is called 'The Rights of Man'. It come from a CD we did in the 90's called 'A Parting Gift'.
