Do Catholics use a spurious quotation that is attributed to St. Athanasius to claim that this great saint and defender of the faith gave honor and respect to Mary?

That is what is being claimed by AOMIN right below

http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php?itemid=3157

I have previously read this quote aloud and made a video of this Homily that can be found here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWao71RYmr8

In this latest video that I have written and filmed, we find that AOMIN have gotten rather desperate, now claiming quotes that are attributed to certain Fathers to be spurious.

This examination will detail important aspects of this HOMILY OF THE PAPYRUS OF TURIN which is attributed to the great St. Athanasius

  • "Let us note that the very tradition, teaching, and faith of the Catholic Church from the beginning, which the Lord gave, was preached by the Apostles, and was preserved by the Fathers. On this was the Church founded; and if anyone departs from this, he neither is nor any longer ought to be called a Christian. St. Athanasius 360 AD

  • The honor is most definitely due, and is shown as such in the current Orthodox view on Mary. It doesn't extend into Mariology with the Mediatrix and such, but upon first look...the text quoted as Athanasius looks remarkably similar to the hymn written by St Cosmas (which is still used in the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in Greek Orthodox Church) who lived in the 900s, much after St Athanasius.

  • i love the part in the latria dulia debate where william questions turretinfan about a passage in the greek and turretin goes "oh hmm" lol

he also uses james white arguments all the time in the debate. I wonder if that blog of his is another ripped argument from james.

  • Turretinfan is not the brightest bulb in the socket. So take it easy on him. He is a coward as well, & he can't deal with straightfoward arguments so his blog is moderated, lol. If you ask a penetrating question it won't see the light of day. Like i said don't be too harsh on the boy that's only puffed up by false knowledge.

  • great job. It really seems like protestants will attempt to quote the fathers in their apologetics work in order to make their positions sound better to educated catholics, but in the end, they really don't care what the fathers had to say at all.

  • My brother, I admire your effort and faith.

You are most welcomed at my place if you ever pass by.

    Thank you.

  • great response! thanks so much
