  • Considering the Maestro's age and health condition at the time of this broadcast, much can be forgiven and overlooked considering Toscanini's accomplishments, and his personal familiarity with the Romantic Era composers, where his forte was. As a side-note, Violist of the NBC Symphony was Milton Katims, who before Toscanini's retirement, directed many of the rehearsals prior to broadcast, and acted as "Guest conductor" of the NBC Symph. prior to becoming Conductor of the Seattle Symphony.

  • except that the memory lapse is not on this recording, which include only the first part of the overture and bacchanale. the breakdown came later in the piece
