This dance from Northern Thrace, Bulgaria,
-
Momchi sounds like a stinking FYROMANIAC who attempts to change Greek history.

Копаницата не беше ли шопски танц?

Yes, it is more ancient, but here we don;t talk about cultural influence. In 1913 and 1919 Greece expanded her theritory over Southern Macedonia nad Thrace. Those territories had big bulgarian population, actually the majority of the population was bulgarian. So, nowadays greeks sometimes present the traditions of this population as greek. This is the problem. If you have more experience with the folklore of Greece and Bulgaria, you will easily distinguish one bulgarian and one greek dance.

Ok I get it now. Thank you for the information. But is not Greek culture much more ancient than Bulgarian culture - could it be that the Bulgarians have included some parts of Greek dance into their traditional folklore. I am not aiming for a controversy - I am just enquiring. I am neither Greek nor Bulgarian.
-
So, if you have seen dances from northern Greece, they, of course, are similar to this, but the only reason for this is that very often the traditional dances presented as northern greek are actually bulgarian.
-
I did see some Greek Traditional dances - and I do find some similarity - perhaps you can enlighten me about the differences between the Bulgarian dances and the traditional Greek Dances.
