On September 30, 2000, 8th-ranked USC came to Reser Stadium to face the Beavers. Early in the 2nd quarter with the scored tied 14-14, a possum appeared in the south end zone. It proceeded to run north down the field. As it neared the north end zone, the crowd grew louder and louder, cheering on the marsupial. When it finally crossed the goal line, the crowd exploded. It was finally wrangled by Jess Lewis, head of maintenance for Oregon State's athletic facilities and former Giant Killer. The Beavers went on to defeat the Trojans 31-21 in front of a crowd of 33,775.
@bubbaries Possums don't hang from their tails, but they do use them for climbing. Picking them up by their tails are the safest way to handle a possum.

no... i dont think smacking it with clipboard is the right way... but grabbing its tail? yes. They hang from trees by their tale don't they?

I was at this game, in the south endzone seats about 20 feet from where this possum emerged and ran onto the field. I seen the whole thing!. Back then the seats were just open bleachers, and the stadium sits near a river and is surrounded by woods that are full of possums.
